Dance-A-Thon 2016: a Small Sample of the Excitement to Come!
For those who braved the ominous (and thankfully incorrect) weather forecasts, the Catalyst 2016 Dance-A-Thon & Cardio Boot Camp provided an exercise experience that many are still smiling about! Scheduled to start at 6:00PM, the clouds cleared “right on cue,” giving way to a dramatic sunset , and a refreshing breeze that rewarded our “popping & planking” participants and instructors.
I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for making Dance-A-Thon 2016 an exciting, memorable and success.
While attending the event, I was approached by a number on onlookers questioning “what” we were all doing and “why?” Many observers expressed remorse they hadn’t heard about the event sooner, noting “it looks like everyone is having a blast!” They were.
So I thought I would offer some insight into why Catalyst sponsors this and other Special Events.
Why a Dance–A–Thon & Cardio Boot Camp?
Answer #1: Community.
Along with the obvious physical fitness benefits, we believe these opportunities provide a positive forum for people of all ages and abilities to come together. The outdoor Dance-A–Thon was open to members and their guests, creating a welcoming atmosphere that encouraged all. It also provided an opportunity for non-members to share in the kind the friendly, supportive experience that is Catalyst.
Answer #2: Fun.
Or should I say… FUN!! When something is fun, you are more inclined to try it… to maintain it… to have others join you in doing it! According to the American College of Sports Medicine, along with the numerous health benefits:
“Group exercise provides us with an opportunity to feel young again and be physically active with others. Regardless of your passion or interest, what is most important is to move. Group exercise offers an outlet for people to do this while having fun! ”
Answer #3: Fitness.
While community unity and fun were key goals for the night, It’s important to note the very real fitness benefits had by all. While it may not have seemed it by the smiles on everyone’s faces, participants burned a LOT of calories: approximately 800 to 1000 calories for those dancing…1200 or more for those braving the Cardio Bootcamp!
Exciting future events are in the works!
With so much positive feedback, our plans are to continue and expand the special events we offers. Along with our annual Transformation Challenge and Dance-A-Thon, we have quite a few surprises scheduled in the very near future. In fact, we will soon be adding a new Special Events section to our website to both promote and archive mementos from these exciting activities. Watch for it in the coming months!
